Peru State College

We just got back from PSC tonight, and it's always fun hanging out with those guys. All four of us got in the car to visit the weekly meeting and to speak about launching movements everywhere so that everyone on campus knows someone who is a follower of Jesus Christ. It was fun to connect with the students and to hear about some of their amazing adventures. Here are some of the nutshells:

All but one of the students on the leadership team came to Christ through Campus Crusade for Christ at Peru. Every year the trend is about the same: over half of the involved students either came to christ through CCC or started walking with God for the first time through CCC. They are incredible about having people belong before they believe.

A handful of students created their own summer project, and it rocked. About 7 students went from Nebraska, met up with the CCC Hawaii summer project, then went to Samoa where one of their fellow classmates lives. Once in Samoa they went to villages and from island to island partnering with a bunch of different groups, doing a variety of different activities. They went door to door and shared christ with families in their homes in conjunction with local churches. They partnered with a Christian outreach band that was on the island for three days; the PSC students helped to lead people to Christ and follow up people after they came forward. They partnered with Intervarsity to meet physical needs. Finally, they partnered with FCA to host sport camps. These students LITERALLY did it all on their own. The only thing we did to help was to pray for them and give them very minimal coaching about support raising. In total (including the 3 days with the band) these 7 students saw 400 people pray to receive Christ in 2 months. Wow.

Another cool part (for me) was to connect with Kurt and Chris. When I was a senior in college I lead a 2 week expedition across the state of Nebraska. There were about 12 of us men who piled into two vans and went on an adventure: we canoed, camped, served at an Indian reservation, etc. in the context of developing as men and as leaders. Not all of those guys are still walking with God, but Kurt and Chris are. Chris is on staff with us in Nebraska Catalytic, and Kurt and his wife are praying about and moving toward joing staff to work with Jay Cline down in Arizona. One of the things that is appealing to Kurt about working in Arizona is the prospect of working with Native Americans in the Tuscon area...he said tonight that God has been working in his heart ever since our trip to work with that population. Kurt and Chris were freshmen when we went on the trip, and I can't express how proud I am of them for following the Lord's leading and becoming men of faith. I am so blessed to have been a small part of their lives.

Jesse, one of the leaders, made a three-wheeler from scrap parts and a salvaged engine. He thinks it would top out at about 60mph, but hasn't had the nerve to go faster than 35-40mph since he hasn't installed brakes!
