It has been a whirlwind of travel, but in the midst of that whirlwind we have seen God move. We have experienced more cultures in two weeks, than I have in my whole lifetime before this. A week ago we were sitting amongst students and staff from 147 nations at a conference designed to develop leaders to launch movements all over the world. Lots of people, lots of information, and lots of humidity surrounded us as we crammed into tiny rooms to sleep and spent countless hours worshiping, praying, and listening in a huge convention center. As a group from the Midwest, Korean prayer captured our hearts, Egyptian devotion challenged our faith, and a needy world moved us to action.
Last Saturday we arrived in Pretoria, South Africa. This will be our home for two weeks as we trust God to transform the University of Pretoria through our time here. These first couple days have been transition and training as campus doesn't start up until tomorrow. Yesterday we went to see the campus. As the students walked around we could tell that they were itching to talk with students from Pretoria, and put to practice all they heard the week before. They took a couple hours to go out and share their faith with the people they found on campus, and afterward couldn't contain their excitement. Today we spent time trianing them on what it looks like to live Spirit-filled lives, being directed by Christ moment by moment, and completely relying on Him. After that we trained them on launching movements, and challenged them in the way they view their campuses, and what they are really believing God for. Wanting the students to really own this project and get practical training in reaching a campus, we let them go. For a little over an hour they brainstormed about what it would look like to reach the campus here in Pretoria. As staff, we stepped aside, and talked about coaching these students to greatness by helping them discover where God was moving, and join Him there. We had empowered our students to believe God for the campus, and after their brainstorming time we found out how incredible our student are. They had plans, were taking the initative, and looked like they were going to run onto campus that moment.
As I mentioned before, classes start tomorrow on campus. Pray that our students would have great faith. Pray that they would be bold in sharing their faith, and telling others about living a spirit-filled life. Pray that they would launch spiritual movements that continue through the students here. Pray that they would take this experience and become lifetime laborers for Christ, wherever the Lord takes them.
It has been an amazing ride so far. I hope to write again soon.
